Don’t it figure Just when we got going Everything is gone And don’t it figure Just when we’re all-knowing Everything is wrong But it don’t matter What you might believe in If anything at all ‘Cause as you get higher It’s a little further That you gotta fall chorus We call it a shame but we all are to blame It’s all just a game ‘til it ain’t Afraid to embrace that we’re losing the race So we just act the part and we wait ‘til it starts again Don’t it figure Just when we got open Everything is closed And don’t it figure Now that we see through it Everything’s exposed But it don’t matter What you’re understanding Or what may be unclear ‘Cause as we keep drifting We’re a little further From what we need to hear chorus If there's a brighter day We need it right away chorus
2.
Everybody’s waiting for someday But what if someday never comes? Everything we’ve been saving, sitting worthless What then, what then, what then, what then? chorus Just say when Just say when Just say when And I’ll be there Just give me the headlines And I’ll fill in the rest ‘Cause I’m tired of the same stories going nowhere And I’m running out of breath chorus
3.
Down 03:40
Maybe we are dreaming Maybe we are dreaming Maybe we are dreaming We’ll see chorus When it all comes down Are we really feeling? Are we really feeling? Are we really feeling? We’ll see chorus When it’s time for leaving When it’s time for leaving When it’s time for leaving Will we? chorus
4.
Looking at these pictures I feel a little weak That monkey is coming ‘round again And the devil starts to speak So I twist and turn to clear my head And I see just where I stand And I realize that I’m everywhere If I hold on to your hand chorus ‘Cause when I’m in your hands This world seems so small And I don’t want to do anything I want to do it all Outer space is inside me And I’m lifted by your sound But I still ain’t found no gravity So I’m never coming down And the look upon my face Is the one you know so well We can talk all day about nothin’ With a thousand stories to tell chorus It’s like lovin’ in the morning It’s like floating in the sea It’s my Sunday morning gospel It’s a reason to breathe chorus
5.
Down to Love 03:07
It’s outrageous Contagious It will save us if we let it Take us to the other side It’s for the dreamers It’s for the screamers It’s not as hard as it sometimes seems One kiss and we can all be gods chorus It all comes down to love It all comes down to love Go on and take some Go on and make sone Go on and save some for yourself ‘cause You can never have too much It’s like a dagger It make you stagger For get the stroll, baby, you’ve got swagger Just turn it on and let it run chorus
6.
For us all to take a step For us all to blink our eyes For us all to pay our debts For us all to be surprised chorus I’m ready for it now I’m ready for it now I’m ready for, ready for, ready for it now For all our last requests For a taste of something sweet For the answers to this test For the shuffle and repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat chorus
7.
Thick 05:21
It moves like a thief in the night Careful and silent, absorbing the light It hangs with the greatest of ease An acrobat swinging on a broken trapeze You mostly notice just when it's not there A sigh of relief as your lungs fill with air But you watch and you wait for its fateful return It's heavy, it's angry, it's ugly, it burns And it's thick Yeah, it’s thick Yeah, it’s thick It starts with cough or a sneeze But soon you are drowning and down on your knees The colors all swirl like a dream One that's controlled by the mighty machine Yeah, the mighty machine Some days it's purple and some days it's red And some days it drives its way into your head And on the rare chance you may find that it's green You know that too soon it will fall in between Where it's thick Yeah, it’s thick Yeah, it’s thick You close all the curtains and just stay inside You let the day fade, 'cause it's safer to hide And wait for the nighttime to obscure the sky But seeing it starless you can not deny That it's thick Yeah, it’s thick Yeah, it’s thick
8.
Here Before 04:56
Touch You can’t touch You can’t touch my soul Take You can’t take You can’t take control chorus ‘Cause I’ve been here before I’ve kissed the ceiling and cursed the floor I’ve been knocking on this door Yeah, I’ve been here before Touch I can touch I can touch my soul Take I can take I can take control chorus I was here before you I was here before you I was here before you I was here Now I’m here before you Now I’m here before you Now I’m here before you Now I’m here Chorus (You can’t break my heart, I’ve already tried You can’t take my voice, it comes from deep inside I won’t lose my light, I won’t lose my way I’ve been here before and I am here today)
9.
I’ve been around, ‘round, ‘round, ‘round, ‘round For a little while And I’ve found, found, found A few things that make me smile Like sharing a joint with a friend Hearing a song again and again Waking at dawn and still seeing the moon Or sleeping ‘til noon But I thought I should let you know That of all these things There’s one That gets me the most chorus And it’s you, Marie Yeah it’s you, Marie Yeah it’s you, Marie Yeah it’s you, Marie There were days, and days, and days, and days, and days I was in a daze And there so many ways, so many ways, so many ways I carried that weight Like watching a day float by Hiding a tear that dripped from my eye Putting it down in so many words Or just feeling the hurt But I thought I should let you know That of all these things There’s one That’s helped me to grow and let go chorus When I turn off my eyes and turn off my mind It turns on the light Twenty years have gone by and I’ve been given the time To learn not to fight When something’s so right, it’s alright chorus
10.
'til the End 05:04
I came here with nothing All I’d ever need Nothing never leaves you Nothing knows no greed But now I’ve all these somethings And everywhere to be I’m trying to find nothing It’s all I want to be I’ve looked for the reasons only to find none But I found a feeling, and it weighs a ton It is every color, and it is every sound It fills my head, my heart, my soul And holds me to the ground It holds me to the ground I’ve been thinking that it's better not to have and not to know But these thoughts are bigger than me and they always seems to grow And I won't try to stop them No, I won't try to fight And I won't try to bury them But I won't give them light Sitting in a silence, loud as any din I'm trying to find nothing and begin again Here there is no waiting Here there is no line Here there is no hurry “Cause here there is not time Here there is no time There's no real, no pretend There is nothing to defend There’s no now, there’s no then There is nothing to transcend There’s no up, there’s no down Everything just goes around There’s no life, there’s no death There is only space and breath And I’m here ‘til the end
11.
It's Time 03:38
Waiting We’ve all been waiting Waiting We’re all done waiting And now it’s time for us to move Yes, it’s time for us to move Yes, it’s time for us Changing There’s so much changing Changing There’s so much changing And now it’s time for us to choose Yes, it’s time for us to choose Yes, it’s time for us No more wasted choices We must raise our voices Raise our voices Saying Hear what we’re saying Saying Here’s what we’re saying Now it’s time we know the truth Yes, it’s time we know the truth Yes, it’s time we know (We know that it’s time You know that it’s time We know that it’s time You know that it’s time)

about

As a songwriter, sometimes songs are gifted to you, meaning that they unfold easily, quickly, painlessly, and joyfully. Sometimes they come from a particular experience, or a muse, or what some refer to as “the universe”. Sometimes a song sleeps within an instrument and is just waiting for someone to come along and play it out of its physical casing. Other songs are stubborn, elusive, cautious, and shy. They require more finessing, coaxing, and negotiation. The songs on “A Taste of Something Sweet” fall into both of these categories. Several came to the recording studio fully-formed, while others unfolded during the recording process. However and whenever they came, these songs revealed themselves to me completely. I know all of the songs on this record. I know what they mean to me and they have all helped me in their own particular ways. As you listen to them I hope you experience comfort, connectedness, joy, questioning, and inspiration. Mostly, I hope you find that they mean something to you and I am honored to be able to share them.

Thanks for listening.
Daniel

"Momentary Genius" is American alt-rock musician Daniel Weisman. His first album, “A Taste of Something Sweet", was written, recorded, performed, and programmed by him in his home studio. From the funky, conscience-minded “Don’t It Figure” to the tender and confessional “It’s You, Marie”, the tracks on “A Taste…” touch on love, politics, and seeking answers to this crazy thing called "life". ... more
